Sustainable Wallpaper and Fabrics

Sustainable Wallpaper and Fabrics

Sustainable wallpaper and fabrics can be challenging to find.  It is always best practice to source a company that produces products with a commitment to maintain sustainable goals.  This involves monitoring manufacturing processes and developing responsible practices to reduce the carbon footprint at all levels.

Crown Wallpaper + Fabrics, based in Canada is a resource for sustainable wallpapers and fabrics.   It is recommended that vinyl wallcovering products are manufactured to meet the strict standards stipulated for healthy indoor air quality through the California 01350 Specification for Low VOCs for Better Indoor Air Quality.

Many of the contract vinyl brands Crown distributes safely print wallcovering using HAPs free and water-based inks. Through precise methods, these inks are oxidized — generating heat that can be returned to the process, virtually eliminating any hazardous emissions of carbon dioxide. Inks are processed through a regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO), which reduces our energy usage and allows us the ability to capture, monitor and record measurable emission data.  These products utilize both water-based inks or recycled printing inks on presses with a closed loop system. The process sends all inks to a distilling process to be used over again, resulting in zero liquid ink waste.

Building Materials products, such as contract vinyl and adhesives can potentially contribute towards or comply with the allocation of Leed™ credits, however do not carry points by themselves.  Crown Wallpaper + Fabrics has many products that support Leed™ criteria for:

  • Low-emitting materials
  • Recycling construction waste
  • Use of post-consumer recycled content
  • 500-mile point of manufacturing

products that may not be 100% sustainable or green but are conscious on methods of production and take measures to act responsibly.
